About: This is a serial fantasy novel that will be released in regular installments. Watch for The Black Act: Witch Twins Saga – The Complete Serial Novel coming soon, with an introduction from a special guest author.

The history of a curse is filled with bloody battles, bitter hatred, and dark secrets.

Through five generations, ghosts of war haunt the wise women. When the rebellion of Glenna ends, their curse sleeps bound in the Tunnels of the Dead, waiting for its chance to re-awaken the war between the wood people and Dalthwein clans. Claire, a wise woman born in the valley of the fae, unwittingly helps it escape imprisonment, while her twin sister Anna receives psychic glimpses of ancient secrets she must unravel. With her scribe teacher Rosalind, she also struggles to uncover the reasons behind Claire’s strange behavior, ever escalating since the death of their guild mother, Grianne.

The Age of the Wise Women will cease if the curse does not end with Anna and Claire. Perhaps inheriting the mistakes of their ancestors and learning the truths of their identities will bring great suffering for these witch twins.

In The Black Act Book 6: Witch Twins Hunted, the saga of the witch twins concludes with Claire’s daughter. War and plague rage through the valley, threatening the very existence of the wise women guild. Will Ella end the curse inherited from her mother, or will she bring the destruction her ancestral ghosts seek?

Excerpt: Had Rosalind not decided to return late that night after the Samhain ritual concluded, Claire was sure she would have died. She was thankful for the elder’s presence this morning, when she woke to weak autumn light peeping in through the bedroom window.

“Don’t move too much, child. You are quite bruised and scratched up.”

Rosalind’s voice comforted her. She was glad her second guild mother remained with her still. Claire winced, trying not to jerk upright from a sharp spasm that coursed through her lower abdomen when she laid a hand on her stomach.
Rosalind handed her some water.

She smiled at her. “You should go, mother. Should you not be in elder lands? You took your oath of eldership last night.”

Rosalind smoothed some hair back from Claire’s brow, and she was happy to have the reassuring touch. She felt so lost, so lonely, with her mind scattered and her spirit filled with anger she could not rightly claim as her own, but how could she purge those who possessed her? Perhaps Rosalind could help but, in this weakened state, she wondered if it was too late for healing even under this wise woman’s skilled spells. Maybe death was all that was left to her. It was what she deserved.

“I spoke with the elders about your situation this morning.” Rosalind stood and walked to the small bedroom window. “I told them about Anna’s disappearance. But I didn’t tell them your ridiculous story. They are undecided on sending out a search party, since we are so close to winter storm season. I fear she is lost to us.”

Claire sat up in bed and tried to quell the betrayal she felt at Rosalind’s words. “I told you the truth last night. Anna is transformed. She will not be coming back.” She held off tears as her mother faced her. She noted disappointment pulled down the woman’s face in a weighty frown. “She deceived me. She took the spell and the blood I was to have and she became queen. She belongs to the Oak King and the forests now. She is no longer one of us.”

Rosalind bowed her head. She toyed with the hem of her apron. “Strange things have been happening in guild lands since Samhain eve. So, a part of me wants to believe you.” She looked up, tears spilling over her eyelids and down her cheeks. “But another part of me desperately wishes not to believe you, because I want my Anna back.” She moved swiftly across the room, sweeping the curtain aside as she went.

Before she could exit, Claire called to her. She ignored the stab of resentment that flooded her heartcore when the elder showed so much love for Anna. Claire felt it belittled her own fragile state.

“What strange things?” Claire asked.

The elder returned to the room with her hands clasped at her waist. It was as if she were weighing the pros and cons of divulging her information. Claire grew impatient as she waited. Finally, Rosalind came to sit at the end of the cot.

“One of the younger initiates did not return from the Samhain celebration,” she said. “We didn’t realize it until her guild mother reported it to the elders. The search party found her torn robe near the north east tree line, lying in a mound of disturbed earth. She’s still missing.” Rosalind paused. “Her guild mother went out again, three days past. She has not returned from her search. We are losing our witch women, and I have to wonder if it has something to do with the tainted seed that grows in your belly.”

Claire wrapped her arms protectively around her protruding stomach.

Hey folks,

Happy Halloween and Blessed Samhain to all! Just a quick note to let you all know The Black Act Book 5: Witch Twins Haunted is now available at Amazon, Kobo, Smashwords, and Nook. Details, buy links, and an excerpt below. This is probably my favorite part of the serial novel. Book 5 includes scenes that were taken from the original short story, Queen of Samhain, which inspired the novel. Plus there’s a run in with a nasty earth slug.

The Age of the Wise Women will cease if the curse does not end with Anna and Claire. Perhaps inheriting the mistakes of their ancestors and learning the truths of their identities will bring great suffering for these witch twins.

In The Black Act Book 5: Witch Twins Haunted Glenna sneaks into the elder main house, where she faces dire consequences and life shattering truths. The phantom woman takes Claire to the wastelands, but Claire has a change of heart about carrying on the curse. However, it may be too late to refuse the ghosts of her ancestors.

Excerpt: “Glenna, no. Let her go. Stop!”

It pained her not to heed Rothrien’s plea, but she couldn’t listen. If she turned back and let her sister go, she risked losing everything in her life she cherished.

She held up her skirts and swung her legs over the fallen oak that marked their meeting place. Saranna wasn’t far ahead, and she’d slowed her pace. She hadn’t yet discovered Glenna behind her. Glenna slowed to a fast walk to keep her approach as near soundless as possible.

I am hunter. She is prey. Only one chance.

The thought stopped her. She ducked behind a thick cottonwood, taking time to gather her senses after the phantoms’ assault. She placed her hands on the cool, deeply wrinkled bark and laid her forehead against the tree.

She’ll tell. She’s angry with you—hurt—she’ll tell.

Tasting blood, she stopped biting her tongue to hold back the screams of ‘shut up.’ Instead, she whispered to Goddard and Corrigan, “She’s my sister. I won’t harm her. Not like last time.”

Then you will never see Rothrien again.

Her hand slid beneath her apron and she found the fine silver belt that held her dagger. She closed her eyes. Tears escaped as she slid the iron blade from its scabbard. Daring a glance around the trunk, she found Saranna had stopped to rest. She sat at the side of the path, using the trunk of a large birch to support her. Her eyes appeared to be closed.

Staying behind the cover of trees, Glenna moved forward as she watched her sister from between the gaps in the branches. She held the dagger behind her and she alternated glances between Saranna and the ground, careful not to step on anything that might make enough noise to give her away.

The Age of the Wise Women will cease if the curse does not end with Anna and Claire. Perhaps inheriting the mistakes of their ancestors and learning the truths of their identities will bring great suffering for these witch twins.

In The Black Act Book 4: Witch Twins Rebellion the story of Glenna, a wise woman haunted by the ghosts of her family curse, unfolds and her connection to Anna and Claire is revealed, along with devastating truths for Claire and her lover Luthien.

Excerpt: “The altercation between my former self and Corrigan isn’t a secret,” the Oak King said. “Nor do we feel a need to spread it around and validate—honor—a negative time in our shared histories. While we do believe in learning from our mistakes, the fae don’t believe in glorifying them.”

Goddard snickered. He turned in a slow circle with his arms held out at his sides, palms up and hands held high.

“A curse,” he shouted to the gathered crowd. “A flimsy string of uttered words and an iron dagger through the heartcore. That was how my great ancestor put an end to your powerful Oak King. He turned the witch magics against you. Used your own sacred practices to shame you.”

The Oak King snorted. His face contorted into a wrinkled, ugly frown. “He raped a young witch girl’s body and mind. He took our spells and perverted them. Corrigan and his followers committed black acts. He endangered both our peoples’ well being. He deserved the death he received.”

Goddard turned away, still laughing a low, hideous laugh. But Drea sensed his childish rage was fading.

The king watched her father for a moment then made his way back toward the table. She was about to turn away with the rest of the crowd when a shrill scream broke the renewed calm.

Hey folks,

September was a bit crazy with our move and dealing with Bell Aliant in the great internet and phone capers, but I’m back online (yay!) and catching up in various areas. We’re so happy to be living in Moncton! While I love the country, I admit I missed the convenience of life in a small city. That and there’s a lot of maintenance (which means more money spent) involved in rural life. At least, this was our experience. Sure the people above us sound like a small herd of elephants somedays, but I still love our little apartment and am happy to be here.

Anyway, enough babbling. On to the cover reveal for The Black Act Book 4: Witch Twins Rebellion. I will have this released by the end of September.

About: This is a serial fantasy novel that will be released in regular installments. Watch for Book 4: Witch Twins Rebellion coming soon.

In The Black Act Book 3: Witch Twins Cursed Anna learns more about the origins of the curse handed down through generations of her family, when Rosalind shares with her the story of Drea, the first wise woman, and how Drea’s crime against the wood people led to the creation of the wise women’s guild.

Excerpt: The wind is warm this morning. Anna knew it held an omen that the approaching Summer Quarter would be stiflingly hot and long. It’ll probably drag well into the Autumn Quarter this revolution.

She wouldn’t mind so much though. She preferred the Autumn Quarter, and a lengthened one meant she could enjoy the vibrant colors of final harvest time that much longer.

“Why is Claire not with you?”

Rosalind finally broke the silence as they walked to the guild’s orchard—a long, sweet smelling grove of apple trees. The fruit was sacred to wood people and Dalthwein alike, and served as a symbol of hardy abundance for harvest times.

“She was already gone this morning when I woke up.”

She heard Rosalind’s soft sigh of worry. She certainly shared this troubled state of mind with her.

They continued their walk, Anna carrying the small picnic basket. Though the birds sang and the day was lovely, in their collective thoughts Anna and Rosalind exchanged nothing but darker, troubled images.

Once they entered the orchard and settled on the grass beneath a leafy, fragrant apple tree, Anna decided to break the quiet.

“Last night, you said we come from the tainted line of Goddard.” She opened the basket. “That Claire and I are of the McCleod ancestry. I don’t understand. I thought the fae sent all of the McCleod tribe out of the Dalthwein lands. After the Rebellion of Glenna, when her connection to the McCleod bloodline was discovered, she and her sympathizers were exiled. Most went back to their nomadic roots. That’s what you elders taught us.”

Rosalind looked so weary, so old and frightened. Anna feared the toll all this was taking on her elder’s health.
